Overall condition poor to fair: no dustjackets; not in original bindings, an inked number at the front of each vol., but no ownership stamps apparent, so probably not ex‑library; binding generally sound, starting to split here and there, but no pages are detached; printed on low-grade paper, so pages very yellowed with age, some foxing, and rather flimsy, so several pages throughout show repairs made with transparent stuff; most of the index page in vol. 3 is missing altogether; some pencilled marking here and there throughout, and a previous reader has made inked corrections to the text on at least 3 pages.
