Traces the story of Edmund and Edward Aetheling, sons of Edmund Ironside, banished by Canute after Ironside's murder. Edward married on the continent and produced a son, Edgar, the 'lost king of England', who for a while seemed able to provide a legitimate challenge to William the Conqueror’s claim on the throne.
